High Mains Cottage

High Mains Cottage

Surrounded by farmland and commanding panoramic views over the surrounding countryside and the River Stinchar, this charming traditional cottage has been tastefully modernised throughout. It has a sunny sheltered position facing south, is set back from a quiet lane and stands alone.

High Mains Cottage has its own large garden and is perfectly placed for exploring the rugged beauty of the Ayrshire coast. The cottage is about 200 years old, whitewashed with a traditional slate roof and has been beautifully restored. There is a colourful cottage garden, with garden furniture and a barbecue.

There is a large attractive country kitchen, which is well equipped for keen cooks, and the sitting room has a cosy atmosphere with wood-burning stove.  All three bedrooms are well decorated and there is both a bath and shower room.

Thank you for providing such a lovely service. We've had a fantastic time staying in High Mains Cottage.

Stayed at Castlehill for the second time and stayed at High Mains last year. These cottages are in a league of their own, stayed all over Scotland but nothing beats the quality and standard of Ballantrae Holiday Cottages, roll on Christmas when we are back at Castlehill.

We have just arrived back from a great week in High Mains Cottage, views to die for and a truly tranquil location. The river walk is fantastic and several other great walks virtually on your door step. The beach is only five minutes’ walk away and it is FANTASTIC!! We have stayed in Beach Cottage previously so we are no strangers to the area, we had to go back to Pebbles Spa and Bistro which was as good as ever; also afternoon tea at Glenapp Castle was to die for. We tried Henrys Bay House restaurant in Stranraer and had a lovely lunch. High Mains is a very well appointed cottage with everything you need for a great holiday … back to Beach cottage in August can’t wait … the big dilemma next time we book is beach or river??? In addition, my 84 year old mother paid her first visit to Ballantrae and loved every minute too. Thanks as always Mick, Jo, Ellie and Grandma Joan x
